Earlier this year, after we had communicated with last year's qualifying events to create this year's qualifier schedule, we received notification that after 13 years as the Preferred Vehicle of Pinehurst Resort, and eight years as the title sponsor of the Acura College Alumni Team Championship, Acura would be ending their partnership with Pinehurst Resort, effective September 1, 2018.

With the end of this partnership, it also means that Acura will cease their title sponsorship of the College Alumni Team Championship. Our company, Tarheel Communications, along with Pinehurst Resort, while disappointed by this news, immediately began searching for a new title sponsor for the event, in an effort to make the transition as seamless as possible for the qualifying events.

Unfortunately, given the time frame between Acura notifying us that the partnership was ending and our first qualifying event in April, we have been unable to identify a new title sponsor to underwrite the cost of the event, and therefore, have to announce that the Acura College Alumni Team Championship will not take place as scheduled in 2018.

While we will continue to seek out sponsors in an effort to revitalize the Championship for the future, with qualifying events beginning in April, we are not able to fulfill the qualifier hole-in-one prizes and National Championship obligations without a title sponsor. We feel that it is not fair to promise something, leaving our “early” qualifying tournaments unable to deliver on the prize of a trip to Pinehurst in the fall if a sponsor does not emerge.

We understand that the Acura College Alumni Team Championship has been a great benefit for 90 different college and university foundations over the last eight years, and apologize for any inconvenience as it relates to your specific qualifying event.

We appreciate the support that you all have given the National College Alumni Team Championship for the past eight years, and wish all of the qualifying events the best going forward. We will continue to update you if we are fortunate to identify a sponsor to continue the event. We are hopeful that a sponsor will come on board so this unique event can continue to benefit the participating colleges and universities.

Thank you,

Andrew Stilwell
